Reading and Writing Blog

 Online Reading BLOG 

Each day you will need to read for at least 30 minutes. You will need to make at least 3 reading blog entries per week. In total, you will need to have at least 9 reading blog entries throughout the entire 3-week course. You may enter more reading blog entries, if you desire to go over and beyond the expectations of the assignment. For this reading blog you will need to select a chapter book. The initial blog entry will include the following elements:

Reading Blog Entry One

a. a brief summary of what you read. 

b. a full bibliographic citation for the book (note—this includes author, publication, date, volume, issue.

c. your impressions of the book—this is what I really look at so make sure that you develop your thoughts and go beyond just liking or not liking—tell why! 

d. Book recommendation – after you read the book. Write in this section whether you would recommend this book to someone else. Explain why or why not you would recommend this book. 

e. a picture of the book cover

Reading Blog Entries Two to Nine

a. a brief summary of what you read. 

b. Draw a picture of what was happening in the chapter you read.

c. Make a prediction of what will happen in the next chapter. 

Each reading blog entry needs to a minimum of 350 words.

Participation – you will respond to your classmates by commenting on a book that they have chosen to read each week.

Your grade will be based on the content of your blog, not your technical skills as a blogger. 


You will be expected to create a writing blog. Select one prompt for the list below for each week. Your response to the writing prompt needs to be at least 3 paragraphs that outline a beginning, middle, and end. 

You will also be expected to respond to at least 3 classmate prompts. Your response to your classmate you should be more than just: I agree. Your response to your classmates should be at least 4 sentences.

Writing Prompt: Have you ever been in a situation where things were not as you expected? How were you able to deal with the situation? As you look back, are you happy with how you handled the situation?

Writing Prompt: Have you ever become friends with someone who you did not expect? What made you become friends?

Writing Prompt: Did you ever go on a trip or do something that changed you in some way? Why do you think you were changed? How did you change?

Writing Prompt: What is your favorite hobby or way to spend time? What makes you enjoy the hobby? How has engaging in that hobby impacted you?

Writing Prompt: Have you ever set and achieved a goal? What inspired you to accomplish your goal? How did you feel once you accomplished your goal?

Writing Prompt: Have you ever judged without knowing all the facts? What prompted you make the judgment? How did your view change once you had all the facts?

Writing Prompt: Which coach or teacher has had the biggest impact on your success? Why do you think you were able to achieve success? Do you think you would have still been successful if you had a different type of leader?

Writing Prompt: Did you ever follow the crowd and act without thinking? What were the repercussions of your action? As you look back on your actions, how do you feel about them?

Writing Prompt: Did you ever follow a passion even when others did not approve? What gave you the courage to move forward? How did following that passion impact you as time went by?
